Balfour Beatty has made a strong start to the year by securing new contracts worth over £29 million in northern Scotland. The contracts are for six construction projects for a variety of customers, including the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
George Hood, Managing Director for Balfour Beatty in northern Scotland, said: "Following the award of the £13.2 million Kessock Bridge refurbishment contract, this £29 million of new business has given us a strong start to the year. We are delighted to be involved in this broad range of projects."
Two of the contracts are part of the MOD's Typhoon Re-basing Project at RAF Lossiemouth. Balfour Beatty will be refurbishing two hangars and an existing office facility, in readiness for the relocation of Typhoon aircraft to the base in 2014/15.
A further project is for the construction of social housing in Port Elphinstone for local developer Tor Ecosse Ltd. This contract is for 28 flats with associated car parking and landscaping.
Balfour Beatty will also be constructing two facilities for use by the police. The first, for Hub North Scotland, is a 60 cell custodial unit on the former Scottish Water site at Kittybrewster in Aberdeen. This will house the Kittybrewster Local Policing Team, around 90 other police staff and a number of partner agencies. The second, Fort William's new police and ambulance station for Northern Constabulary, will be a fully serviced, two storey building with access roads, car parking and hard and soft landscaping.
The final new contract award is from Miller Cromdale (Riverside Business Park) Ltd to demolish existing business units and build a four storey office building with car parking for occupation by GDF Suez E&P UK Ltd. The offices will have capacity for up to 200 people, allowing GDF Suez E&P UK Ltd to locate all their teams in one space. The office will be built to achieve a BREAM Excellent rating.
Balfour Beatty employs approximately 170 people in northern Scotland.
