Assa Abloy Security Doors Provides Fire Protection For One New Change

9 May 2011
News
Over 550 high performance fire doors from ASSA ABLOY Security Doors are helping to protect one of London’s newest contemporary office and retail developments, One New Change.

Located in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral, One New Change offers 340,000 sq ft of prestigious office space and 220,000 sq ft of shops, cafes and restaurants. Developed by Land Securities and designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the development is expected to lead the transformation of the City into a seven-day shopping and leisure destination.

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors has manufactured and installed fire doors with a 120-minute fire rating including double swing doors throughout the landmark building. Fire doors with acoustic properties were also supplied to provide sound insulation as well as fire protection in some areas.

Commenting on the project, Brian Sofley, Sales Director for ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said: “One New Change has generated a lot of interest from Londoners and City workers as well as developers and architects, thanks to its scale, design and location adjacent to St Paul’s Cathedral. The development is one of the largest single openings of new retail space in the City of London, so fire protection and public safety were important considerations.

“Internal fire doors are an essential safety feature within busy mixed use developments like this and steel doors can provide a higher level of fire protection than other materials, helping to prevent the spread of fire and maximise evacuation times. The superior strength and durability of steel doors combined with their relatively low maintenance requirements makes them an ideal fire door choice for high traffic areas.”

The fire doors installed have been tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 22: 1987 and BS EN 1634-1:2000, and are accredited under Certifire registration.

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors manufactures and installs steel and timber doors in a range of performance options, including security, fire resistant, vandal resistant, acoustic and external.
