Job Description

Balfour Beatty Workplace is recruiting for an Application Solutions Designer to join our Head Office IT team in Angel, London EC1V. 

The Application Solutions Designer will create application designs that meet the needs of the business and align with the overall BBW strategy and architecture. This role will be required to understand the business requirements so that solution options can be recommended, providing the best fit. This role will then be responsible for developing the detailed application design based on the gathered requirements, which requires a good knowledge of the industry specific applications available.

Salary

On offer is an annual salary of up to £50,000 depending on salary, plus benefits. Please note, closing date for applications is 22/2/13.

Requirements

  • Experience in a structured design environment
  • Experience of converting requirements into technical solutions
  • Awareness of the latest technology trends and how these could benefit BBW
  • Substantial track record of successfully delivering large or complex IT solutions through the full development lifecycle
  • Experience of detailed application solution designs being used within large organisations
  • Experience in developing application solution blueprints and roadmaps for evolving the applications portfolio
  • Experience of IBM Maximo / WebSphere
  • Experience of Message Broker / MQ solutions
  • Virtualisation Technologies, administration and management (VMware)
  • Oracle Database technology (RMAN / RAC / OEM)
  • Microsoft SQL – DBA skills – clustering HA / DR
  • Application Management, monitoring and capacity planning solutions and technologies

 

Responsibilities

  • Uses the appropriate design standards, methods and tools, consistent with agreed enterprise and solution architectures and ensures they are applied effectively
  • Designs application solutions as part of wider projects: carry out detailed design for areas of own expertise and contribute to overall design and integration of the wider solution
  • Creates and implements practical, flexible detailed designs, ensuring they meet the business requirements and remain aligned to the technology roadmap
  • Maintains relationships with Business Engagement Managers and Project Managers, assisting them in the scoping of projects
  • Provides information to assist in the development of roadmaps, validating the roadmaps, and feeds back any required changes
  • Ensures that the detailed designs and solutions delivered align to the applications target architecture, managing and resolving any design issues as they arise
  • Proactively takes responsibility, owns any issues arising, and follows through to resolve them
  • Works collaboratively with a range of people to support the wider business agenda
  • Always remains focused on the most critical / impactful task to hand using all resources efficiently and effectively
  • Proactively identifies areas for improvement, shares lessons learnt with colleagues and encourages others to do the same
