42-46 Princelet Street

17 Jun 2019
Case study

Situated in Brick Lane, Shoreditch, 42-46 Princelet Street is a new development where two buildings have been transformed into a single space. The design includes a new roof extension, which resolves the (previous) issue of poor internal daylighting. The pleated roof space features north light glazing, which is a contemporary alternative to weaving lofts which once filled the Shoreditch area. Featured throughout the design are In Opera's natural stone tiles which bring a stylish contemporary finish to the building.

Within the building, the architects have altered the existing atrium to now extend upwards throughout the two new floor levels. The addition of a winding strip within the atrium provides a dynamic central space, enhancing natural light and creating interconnectivity between the floors. The entrance is also remodelled internationally which carves out a double height around the reception space, strengthening the visual connection from the cafe, to the lower ground floor.
