Conservation™ sash windows by Mumford & Wood, the specialist manufacturer of period timber windows, doors and garden rooms, have been incorporated in the substantial remodelling and extension of a 1970s family home in Kent.
The home owners, who are long term renovators, reconfigured the layout of the property, moving the kitchen from the front to the back of the house; converting the flat-roofed double garage to a vaulted family room, and have introduced a veranda which runs the full width of the front façade. New window openings have given a more symmetrical appearance and the whole exterior has received a cosmetic makeover.
High performance double glazed sash windows from Mumford & Wood’s Conservation™ range have replaced the original casement windows in the front of the building giving it a new lease of life. Windows in the entrance porch beneath the veranda have ensured the space is filled with natural light while the high acoustic characteristics of these fine double glazed Conservation™ windows reduces unwanted noise from entering the building.
Bespoke Conservation™ windows meet and exceed the current requirements of Part L Building Regulations and already satisfy the requirements of new legislation which comes into force in July 2013. These BSI Energy Rated windows, from ‘A – C’ depending on specification, can achieve a whole frame U-value of 1.3 W/m²K while a triple glazed option, shortly to be introduced to the range, provides a comfortable centre pane U-value of 0.8 W/m²K and whole frame U-value of 1.1 W/m²K.
This bespoke collection, which includes sliding sash and casement windows, French doorsets, bi-fold and entrance doors as well as conservatories, garden rooms and orangeries, has been manufactured in the UK since 1954. Using only knot-free, sustainably sourced, FSC certified engineered Siberian larch as standard, for total strength and stability, they will not warp, twist or stick. They are finished with high security locking systems that meet Secured by Design criteria, and attractive architectural ironmongery in a choice of styles and finishes. Conservation™ products are supplied to site with three coats of premium quality micro-porous paint or stain for longer maintenance cycles. Conservation™ products carry the BSI Kitemark and are Energy Saving Trust recommended.
