Three great resources for teachers for use in a classroom environment and when lesson planning.
Two of these resources have been developed to provide fun ideas for activities to do in the classroom. The third resource is a report based on the findings of children's connections to the built environment. It is a highly valuable resource for teachers aiming to make the connection between children's engagement with the world around them.
Material Life Cycle: looks at waste, where building materials come from and what they become once the building is no longer used. Your challenge will be to rethink recycling and how you can design a house from recycled materials.
Curriculum links: English, Art, Science and Design & Technology
Three Little Pigs and the Recycled Houses: takes a familiar story, drawing attention to the natural and environmentally friendly materials used by the pigs. Activities will encourage pupils to think about circular design and minimising waste.

Resources are aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils but can be adapted by teachers to suit older or younger children.
Little Investigators: Big Visions – findings based on answers from 400plus primary school children that took part in a project with the same name. Two workshops were delivered in classrooms in Greater London by the Built Environment Trust and Architecture for Kids CIC.
Activities included a discussion on the built environment; what it means and how it makes us feel, a short walk sketching landmarks and turning the sketches into 3D models. As part of the project, our Head of Learning compiled a report of the pupils’ answers to what they like and don’t like about where they live. It's a brilliant resource offering ideas on the relationship between children and the built environment and can be downloaded below.
